The Daily Doodles |
My name is David Michael Chandler, and everyday I will post a Daily Doodle with a story attached to it. Everything you see here has been written, drawn, and coloured all on my lonesome. I hope you enjoy them, or die trying. Please E-mail anytime at thedailydoodles@gmail.com |
“Watching TV”
Watching you while you sleep, letting you bask in its glow
Filling your dreams with the fuel that you need to help you grow
The TV’s warm light shall protect you till dawn,
Occupying your mind, until that morning’s first yawn.
It’s the only one that’s been there, when you are alone
You’d have nothing and nobody to love if your favourite shows weren’t shown.
It’s watchful eye stares back at you, making sure that you’re alright
So that your TV can be sure, that you’ll come back the next night.

“Late Night TV”
Creeping down the hallway,
He turns on the television quietly.
After everyone has gone to bed,
He looks at what they don’t want him to see.
The real education starts after hours,
So at boring stupid school he does awfully…
But he’ll learn everything he ever needs to know,
Thanks to watching Late Night TV.

“The Girl Who Lost Her Colour”
THE GIRL WHO LOST HER COLOUR, has been feeling very glum
It seems like she lost her gusto, or maybe has just grown dumb
She can see the world’s full of colour, but she’s covered in foggy mists
No matter how much she tries to brighten, the greyness still persists.
People keep asking her for ‘reasons’, as if she’s breaking sacred laws.
She just knows it is how she feels, even if there is no discernible cause.
She could see it in the mirror, as her colour slowly faded away
And it steadily got dimmer, until it was eventually gone one day.
She used to hope that her colour, can be coloured in by a handsome boy
But she knows that that is fleeting— she has to be able to colour in her own joy.
She wanders amongst the bright people, each a lovely vivid shade.
They look like the people on TV, all self-confident and self-made
She thinks they can tell she’s different, as she’s blinded by their glare
Always feeling like she doesn’t fit in, that no one could possibly care.
Disappearing into her own darkness, she dreams of being a shiny vivid hue
All she wants is to find her colour, but she just doesn’t know what to do.

“The World on Display”, a Haiku.
Strolling past the truth,
Parents may try to shield you…
But still, it seeps in.

“The TV Dream”
As Cooper drifts off to sleep while watching TV,
The warm glow from the set bathing him soothing-a-ly,
He finds himself on the ocean, upon a pink cliff it seems
As what he has fallen asleep to has invaded his dreams.
From beyond the horizon, the Giant Robots trudge forth
Even though the TV sun sets in the west, every direction is North
Cooper can’t turn around to look the massive machines in the eye,
But he can feel them coming closer, and his death is nigh.
Their shadows loom for miles, as he’s frozen in his bed
He can hear their giant claws prepare to crush his tiny head
The whirring gears and beeping lights echo in his mind,
And he knows this is the end of all boy and humankind.
Cooper wakes up with a start, as he was about to surrender
An infomercial blares loudly, selling a new fancy blender
The dream’s reality fades away, as he finds himself back in his room
But he stares blankly at the screen, consumed with the feeling of doom.

“The Test Pattern”
Tom Smith finds himself staring deep into the test pattern, lost in thought, as it subconsciously triggers a flooding of thoughts and memories… his friends, family, and loved ones back in England… the long hours he’s putting into work, living and adjusting to a new country, a new job…
Sometimes it’s been tough, and each time he finds himself wandering the same mental path of nostalgia, being homesick, wanting to be further along in his career… he ends up in the same place— This is worth it.
He’s doing what he needs to do, to be where he wants to be.
The change and sacrifice along the way is simply a part of the plan.
Tom snaps out of his reverie, checks his production schedule for the day, looks at his watch, and realizes that he forgot it’s his birthday.
