The Daily Doodles |
My name is David Michael Chandler, and everyday I will post a Daily Doodle with a story attached to it. Everything you see here has been written, drawn, and coloured all on my lonesome. I hope you enjoy them, or die trying. Please E-mail anytime at thedailydoodles@gmail.com |
“Light as a Ghost”
Lil’ Dennis Nowell was afraid of the deep dark at night
The mystery of the blackness always gave him a fright
While he eventually grew out of it, he always remembered the fears
And how those long sleepless nights ruined his childhood years
Soooo, after he became a Big Dennis Nowell, and lived a long life
And died peacefully in his sleep and was buried alongside his wife,
He decided to turn into a ghost, as opposed to heading up to Heaven
So he could travel back in time, to about the age he was seven.
In the afterlife, time is not in a straight line
It happens all at once, knotted up like twine
Dennis carefully worked to unravel time’s thread,
So he could return to the time he was a child scared in bed.
Now he haunts himself every night, casting his ghostly blue glow
His ectoplasmatic shimmer providing a calming light show.
It soothes his child-self, who is no longer afraid of the dark so deep
He can just stare at himself as a ghost, and peacefully drift off to sleep.

“The Ghosts That Watch You Sleep”
Ghosts are always watching, when you are asleep
In your private moments, they’ll spy and they’ll creep
Some are your relatives, being disappointed with all that you do
Some are complete strangers who simply enjoy watching you.
They whisper in your ears, helping nightmares haunt your dreams
They remind you of your failings, turning whispers into screams
They try to absorb your soul, inhaling all of your precious air
So you wake up feeling defeated, and just say “I don’t care”.
But while you’re never alone, and the ghosts are watching all
Don’t ever let them ever make you feel insignificant or small
They’re just jealous that you’re alive, since they aren’t any more
So laugh in their ghostly faces, and make them watch you snore.

“Crossing Paths with a Robot in the Dense Forest”
As Young Piper the Girl went through a nice walk in the woods
To hide after murdering her enemies (as every Piper the Girl shoulds),
She crossed paths with a Robot, one of those Crypotomechalogical myths
Somehow created before time began, by long extinct Droidsmiths.
Piper stares up at the Droid, and the Droid stares right back
And both just stare at each other, wondering who will attack.
Robots have long been scared of kids, the most illogical of mankind
There’s no sense in their ways, with their cruel fickle mind.
Piper doesn’t know this, of course, and she stands frozen where she stands.
Imagining the noise her bones will make, when crushed by steel hands.
But as she gazes into the Robot’s optic lens, and it peers into her own,
They realize they both want the same thing: to be left alone.
So Piper bows, while the Droid curtsies, neither wanting any war,
And they each go their separate ways, their paths crossing nevermore.

“VHS Memories”
A generation of memories, recorded on magnetic tape
Good moments to savour, and bad ones to escape.
Static-y audio and dull palettes that bled,
All fading away on a format that’s dead.
Your life painstakingly recorded so you can remember it always,
On cheap tape that rots on a shelf, and no longer plays.
Temporary technology meant the recordings don’t last
So all of our VHS memories have been left in the past.
As more times passes, your youth becomes harder to recall
And now there’s no proof you had a childhood at all.

“If You Don’t Eat All Your Candy, Ghosts Will Pop Out Your Eye”
IF YOU DON’T EAT ALL YOUR CANDY, ghosts will pop out your eye
And if ya can’t stop the bleeding then you will surely die.
So take your bag full of all your nummy Halloween treats
And don’t go to sleep till ya got none more to eats.
When parents check in on you, just tell them that you’re fine
An eye-out is no biggie, and parents hate it when ya whine
If ya let the candy last a few days, it may be your last regret
And don’t you dare stop even when your tummy is upset
It’s not only your eye at stake, but also your immortal soul
Every piece of candy not ate tonight will ultimately take its toll
But ya know, if ya fail, it’s not really all that bad
After the ghosts pop out your eye, they eat your mom and dad.
You’ll wear an eye patch from now on, but you’ll have a story to tell
And when you’re eighty and ya pass away, you’ll be the coolest kid in hell.
Happy Halloween!

Flowing through her tangled veins
So she stays afloat.

“The World Out There”
It’s the middle of the night, and he should be asleep in his bed
Instead he’s opening his window and poking out his head
He stares up at the heavens, gazing at the stars
While listening to the sounds of distant passing cars.
The world out there seems strange, and so dark and scary
People die in planes, or eaten by monsters fat and hairy.
Kidnappers will steal you from school, and terrorists shoot you in the face
Evil ghosts will haunt your soul, working in tandem with aliens from space.
Bank robbers take you hostage, and shove your nose into your brain
Or mustachioed villains tie you to the tracks, and have you run over by a train.
The world doesn’t really feel real, as he ponders it from the safety of his room
But he knows that these things happen, it is statistically safe to assume.
The vastness of the night, even as the stars twinkle in the sky
Overwhelms him with the possibilities, of ways to live and die
His world sometimes feel small, surrounded by just his family and his friends
But as he looks out his bedroom window, he can see the world never ends.

Strolling past the truth,

But still, it seeps in.

“The Boy Who Died in His Sleep”
Jeremy tries to scream to force himself awake,
He knows that even if this is all a dream, this is not fake
A portal to the Inter-Dimension has opened under his bed
And it’s absorbing him whole, invading the dreams in his head.
The colours swarm all around, filling his entire brain’s sight
Surrounded on all sides, Jeremy tries valiantly to put up a fight
But the Inter-Dimension can’t be fought with a tiny human fist,
Since it fills the gaps between realities, and doesn’t really “exist”.
With each universe ever expanding, the Inter-Dimension has holes
Which it plugs by absorbing children, and stealing their souls
If no sleeping boys died, the universe would cease to be
A child’s death is needed to maintain the Fabric of Reality.
But when the morning comes, his mother will still weep
For this night it was just Jeremy’s turn to die in his sleep.
