My name is David Michael Chandler, and everyday I will post a Daily Doodle with a story attached to it. Everything you see here has been written, drawn, and coloured all on my lonesome. I hope you enjoy them, or die trying. Please E-mail anytime at thedailydoodles@gmail.com |
“Never Go To Sleep”
If Tony goes to sleep, he’ll never wake up alive
Staying awake forever is the only way to survive.
If he closes his eyes, he gives up his everlasting soul
And the floor will open up and swallow him whole.
The monster under the bed quietly waits for their chance,
And even though Tony is well versed in this dance,
He feels his eyes grow heavy, he wants to close them for a sec’
But that’ll only earn his parents yet another check.
Because the monsters pay moms and dads for each kid they eat
And with the economy today, it’s a deal that can’t really be beat
The monsters own the homes, and live in the bedroom floors
Parents give up the kids, so they don’t have to live outdoors.
Tony feels his eyes close, and the floor opens under his bed
He can sense he’s swallowed up, and soon teeth will crush his head
He’ll rot in the monster’s gut so his parents had a home to own,
But he’ll be with all his dead siblings, so at least he’s not alone.

“The Boy Who Died in His Sleep”
Jeremy tries to scream to force himself awake,
He knows that even if this is all a dream, this is not fake
A portal to the Inter-Dimension has opened under his bed
And it’s absorbing him whole, invading the dreams in his head.
The colours swarm all around, filling his entire brain’s sight
Surrounded on all sides, Jeremy tries valiantly to put up a fight
But the Inter-Dimension can’t be fought with a tiny human fist,
Since it fills the gaps between realities, and doesn’t really “exist”.
With each universe ever expanding, the Inter-Dimension has holes
Which it plugs by absorbing children, and stealing their souls
If no sleeping boys died, the universe would cease to be
A child’s death is needed to maintain the Fabric of Reality.
But when the morning comes, his mother will still weep
For this night it was just Jeremy’s turn to die in his sleep.

“The Idea of Nothingness”
8 year old Gustavo Ramirez stares out into the darkness of his bedroom, struggling to sleep, and he feels his mind wander into the blackness…
He imagines floating through space, passing the different galaxies along the way, and wonders how it all came to be— How did we get here? How did the universe get created? What was the beginning? We’re “something” now… but was it nothing before?
Was the nothing like this, just inky darkness? No… darkness is something. A nothing would be like… umm…
And Gustavo feels his brain hit a snag, jerking the smooth wandering thought process to a stop.
What is nothing.
He has had these thoughts in passing moments before, but only now, in the dark stillness of night, does he have the chance to fully explore them without distraction. He can feel the empty sensation of nothingness creep into his soul, folding his brain in half as he simply tries to picture the concept.
Images of his pets dying and him and his family being dead and forgotten as everything he knows and loves ultimately joining the forgotten nothingness of life all flash in his mind’s eye as he tries to grasp onto the idea of nothingness… and fails.
He can feel the concept come closer, though, more clear, if he can just concentrate harder and remove any sense of light and darkness and sound and air and anything that is something…
Gustavo wakes up groggy and confused the next morning, his alarm blaring. He hurries to run upstairs before his siblings eat the last of the box of cereal, and he shakes the box sadly as he realizes he was too late.
While eating half a’ bowl of cereal crumbs and the last splash of milk, Gustavo decides that it was better than nothing.

“The Sleepy Boy”
I swear that I’m not sleepy; I’m only resting my eyes.
Any claims that I’m falling asleep are simply vicious lies.
Why do you want me to go to bed? What are you trying to hide?
It just seems suspicious, that my requests are consistently denied.
What could one more hour hurt, when there’s so much more to see?
I could be learning about the world, or watching TV that’s naughty.
My friends get to stay up till 9, why don’t my own parents love me the same?
I just wish you didn’t hate me, playing me like a pawn in your bedtime game.
Even though I’m not tired, no matter what you say,
I think I’ll maybe rest my eyes, until it’s the next day.

CHILDREN! Never let your little feet dangle off of the bed
For dangling feet is the leading cause of killin’ kids dead.
Keep ‘em tight under the covers! For demons lay in wait.
Demons’ll try to trick you to get up, but don’t take the bait.
They’re why you’re afraid of dark, and why you have to go potty
It doesn’t matter how you behave, whether good or real naughty
Nightlights are useless; surviving till morning is the only way
Prayer will never help you; just makes you taste more gourmet.
Parents are their only weakness! To all else Demons have adapted
If your parents don’t let you sleep in their bed, you’re prolly adopted.
In fact, your parents have likely taken an insurance claim on your life
The lure of big money when you die will kill ya faster than a knife.
Perhaps your parents just want a new kid, so naturally you’ll have to go
Helping a demon eat you is the perfect crime… who would even know?
Everyone you trust will betray you! But your fate is in your own hands
Those who benefit from your death is endless; the conspiracy expands.
Just don’t give them the opportunity, never give them the chance
Keep your feet under the covers, and on your enemy’s graves you will dance.

In what felt like a land somewhere between wake and dream, Danny Aldridge tried to sit up in bed— but couldn’t. He tries to simply turn his head to check what time it is, but stays frozen in place. His mind races, visions in the dark room appearing before him and fading away as he returns into and out of consciousness.
He tries to tell himself it is just a dream, but the looming shadow behind him feels so real. He can sense someone drawing closer, reaching over him… and two disembodied hands grab his face and plunge their thumbs deep into his eyeballs.
Paralyzed, Danny tries to scream but can’t even let out a whimper.
The strong thumbs dig behind his eyeballs and pull out, and Danny can hear the squishy ripping as the nails gouge through his eye socket.
The hands grasp his throat, and he can feel the heaviness close around his windpipe.
Danny wakes up, the visions melting away, but lays in bed for another hour… still unable to move.
