“The Many Faces”
Jason Frye wears many faces, one for each role he plays
Some of them he wears for friends, or during his school days
Others he’ll wear for work, perhaps for people he doesn’t know
And some of them are faces he hates, and is a blow to his ego.
In his mind’s eye, he sees himself as his practiced face in front of mirrors
Secretly his private worry is that it’s not how he really appears.
What if everyone can spot his flaws, the ones only he is able to see?
Then they’d know the face is a lie, and the thought makes him want to flee.
But until that day he’ll stay in place and wear the face that suits him best,
Only show what he wants others to see, and no one gets shown the rest.

“They’re All Just Gonna Laugh At You”
It doesn’t really matter what you say or do,
Since they’re all just gonna laugh at you.
You’re the living punchline to their neverending joke,
A festering wound that they incessantly poke.
Crying into his pillow, he asks himself why?
And would it be easier if he just let himself die?
It’s not what he wants but it has to be better than this
Constantly being laughed at is not something he’d miss.
Perhaps in a past life he committed some heinous crime
So he’s cursed to be miserable until the end of time
He’s definitely sorry for whatever he had did,
To earn this life sentence as a sad n’ miserable kid :-/
Waking up in the morning, he slowly gets ready for school
Steeling himself for the daily ritual of being made into a fool.
The now feels like forever, the endless jokes at his expense
He can only hope that someday it all makes some sort of sense.

“Thoughts on the Train”
Halfway through the 14 hour train ride from his parent’s home on Earth to his boarding school a few star systems over, Caleb McDaniels looks up from the homework he was meant to do over his winter break and finds himself getting lost in the sea of stars out the window.
Having traveled this route back and forth from school every few months for several years now, he was quite bored with the long trip through space, and was equally bored with the thought of doing his homework to occupy himself.
He stares at the same stars he always sees, and just lets his mind wander.
Each year he feels like the visit home is becoming more and more of a hassle for his parents… Maybe he just won’t go home anymore, so that his return doesn’t always put them out. Home isn’t really home anyways.
The dreary planet below, some agrarian backwater baby-Earth named QiiQ, catches Caleb’s eye as the train slowly travels past. They still haven’t been connected to the interstellar routes, leaving anyone on the planet to be stuck where they are for their entire lives.
Caleb tries to picture what life would be like down there… how his point of view would be different if he was raised there and not on Earth, how his mindset just wouldn’t be the same. It looks like nothing but swamps and sadness from up here… the idea of being STUCK there is hard to fathom for him.
He feels sad for the QiiQians, but he also feels like he’s just saying that to himself because he’s supposed to. He doesn’t really care.
A frantic looking tourist with too many bags comes down the aisle towards Caleb, hungrily eying the open seat next to him. Caleb looks away quickly so as not to seem as if he is inviting the company…
Thankfully they keep walking past, and Caleb let’s out a quiet relieved sigh. He’s just not in the mood for forced conversation with a stranger, and they definitely looked like a talker.
While having someone to talk to would’ve given him something to do, Caleb knows he much prefers complaining to himself about being dreadfully bored rather than complaining to himself about having to talk to someone.
Cursing himself for not bringing a book (he told himself that if he brought a book he wouldn’t do his homework but he should know himself well enough to know that he wasn’t going to do the homework either way), Caleb will spend the rest of the trip unsuccessfully trying to nap.

“The Shocking True Story of a Person Who Doesn’t Know What They Want To Be”
Since all of her friends know what they want to do,
Sandra feels lost, because she doesn’t have a clue.
She likes lotsa stuff, but she can’t call any of it love
So she drifts aimlessly, waiting for a sign from above.
As the years amble by, she knows the crossroads are near
And the thought of choosing ONE thing fills her poor heart with fear.
But it’s time to make a choice, time to put the ol’ indecision on the shelf
Because for some reason you can’t spend your life just being yourself.
One must be defined by their job and career,
Otherwise your identity would be vague and unclear.
Work is what you is, and who you are about
Being just you would fill everyone with doubt.
So, she allows herself to be shackled by the chains of society,
Even though simply being happy is all Sandra wants to be.

“All Problems Solved”
Marcus Schneider looks down at his test score, and sees exactly what he expected— another “F”. He surely will have failed the class now, and might even have to repeat the entire 7th grade.
Ohhhhhhh his parents are going to be so angry…! He’d give anything for them to not find out, but what can he do? His grades will arrive in the mail any day now (and ever since he tried to hide the last one, his dad gets a copy mailed to his office too).
As he dwells on solutions to his problem, Marcus realizes that it really would be so, so awesome if his parents would just die before they got his report card.
Everyone would feel so bad for him! Nobody would care about his insignificant bad grades right after his parent’s death. And there’s no way the school would punish him either, not during his time of grief. They’d likely even reward him for being so strong in the wake of his parent’s passing!
It truly would solve all of his problems, forever.
Plus, it’d really be the best for them. It’ll break their poor little hearts to know how dumb he is… heck the disappointment alone might kill them anyways, so they might as well die beforehand, right? Perhaps in a violent car crash, or maybe a mugging gone awry…
Bahhh… a boy could only be so lucky. :-/
