The Daily Doodles |
My name is David Michael Chandler, and everyday I will post a Daily Doodle with a story attached to it. Everything you see here has been written, drawn, and coloured all on my lonesome. I hope you enjoy them, or die trying. Please E-mail anytime at thedailydoodles@gmail.com |
“The World on Display”, a Haiku.
Strolling past the truth,
Parents may try to shield you…
But still, it seeps in.

“Just One More Wasted Day”
As nighttime turns to day,
and daytime turns to night
You sit alone in your room,
bathed in your laptop’s light
Thinking back to your youth,
remembering all that you have seen,
Your best times were always spent
Staring at your computer screen.
So while life is passing by,
As you spend it clicking and scrolling away
It must be fine for now,
since it’s just one more wasted day.

“The Boy Who Died in His Sleep”
Jeremy tries to scream to force himself awake,
He knows that even if this is all a dream, this is not fake
A portal to the Inter-Dimension has opened under his bed
And it’s absorbing him whole, invading the dreams in his head.
The colours swarm all around, filling his entire brain’s sight
Surrounded on all sides, Jeremy tries valiantly to put up a fight
But the Inter-Dimension can’t be fought with a tiny human fist,
Since it fills the gaps between realities, and doesn’t really “exist”.
With each universe ever expanding, the Inter-Dimension has holes
Which it plugs by absorbing children, and stealing their souls
If no sleeping boys died, the universe would cease to be
A child’s death is needed to maintain the Fabric of Reality.
But when the morning comes, his mother will still weep
For this night it was just Jeremy’s turn to die in his sleep.

“The Pretty Neat Trick”
Daddy was calling Mommy some quite silly dilly names
And while Cooper normally liked most of Goofy Daddy’s games,
Mommy was only crying, she wasn’t having any fun :’-(
So Cooper had to put Papa in time out, so he stops hurting everyone.
Cooper had kept it as a secret, but he knew that if he focused hard
He could get inside others’ heads, and explode them like a petard.
Cooper only counted to three (but he could count all the way to five)
And said “Daddy stop being naughty if you want to stay alive!”
Daddy didn’t seem to listen, he was too busy being grouchie
So Cooper had to get his attention by making him ouchie.
He invaded Grumpy Daddy’s brain and spread as quick as germs
Then proceeded to rip his brain apart and turn his muscles into worms.
Cooper giggled gleefully, and thought that Daddy must like this trick
Because Daddy is finally quiet, and was liquifying pretty quick
His skin melted down like porridge, and his fingernails scabbed off
Then all his internal organs were expelled with a wet, hacking cough.
Cooper stops and bows, and watches his Daddy’s body drizzle
The runny lard falls in plops and his popped eyeballs hiss and sizzle.
“Daddy please understand, this hurts me more than it hurts you”
“You have to consider the ramifications of everything you do”
But Daddy didn’t respond, and Cooper just hoped the lesson had been learned
Mommy helped Cooper hide the body, and had Daddy’s possessions burned.
Later as she tucked Cooper into bed, she smiled and wept a single tear
And told Cooper that she was officially nominating him for Boy of the Year.
Hooray for Cooper!

“The Girl Who is Always Bored”
There once was a girl who was always so bored
So her parents went and bought all the toys they could afford
And when she was tired of ‘em, she threw them in the trash
Then pouted and whined and with her teeth she did gnash!
Her parents wanted to help, so they asked her “what’s wrong?”
But the girl only kicked and screamed for an entire year long
They hoped the sea could entertain her, so they moved down to the shore
She yawned and burned the house down, because the ocean was a bore.
So they went to the city, and gave her all she could ever need
Made sure she had no problems at all, and paid her bad behaviour no heed
But this made it worse, and she got more bored than she ever was
Acting out and being annoying for no better reason than “just cuz”.
Since she had no real problems in her life, she had to create her own
And she entertained herself with fake problems even after she was grown.
Finally, on her deathbed, after a lifetime of feeling permanently ignored
She realizes that she is bored of being boring, and bored of being bored.
Alas! T’was too late, as the boredom was always in her head
And now from here and forevermore she’ll be boringly dead.

“Defragmenting the Brain”
Horrible memories next to good means the two often commingle.
You wish to remember a nice moment, but get that uneasy tingle.
Pleasant nostalgia ruined by things you wish you could erase.
Forgetting is usually impossible, but brains have a lot of open space.
Simply defragment your brain, store the dark memories to the side,
In the empty unused portions of the mind, you put them to hide.
There they can’t bug you, or infest what you wish to recall,
No more pausing on past regrets, slowing your brain to a crawl.
You’ll live happier not remembering anything that made you sad.
Filled with confidence knowing that you never did anything bad.
While over time that data may leak out, and flashes break through,
Just defragment your brain again, and you’ll never have to be you.

“To Dream to Be Alone”
Fatma leans over her birthday cake (a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, chosen because it is Fatma’s mother’s favourite cake instead of Fatma’s preferred carrot cake), as her 7 siblings impatiently squawk for Fatma to blow out the candles so they can wolf down the dessert.
Her mind wanders as she ponders what to wish for, and the loud bustling of her family slowly fades away as an empty calmness creeps in…
What would it be like to be alone
No one bothering me on the phone
I’d make cheese sammiches 3 times a day
Then sit and eat carrots while I draw away
Finally living life being second to none
I wouldn’t have to care about anyone
No more worries, no more stress
No longer having to clean up another’s mess
I wish I could be, with no friends or family
Just exist by myself as I drink cups of tea…
A loud shriek pierces Fatma’s reverie as her younger brothers start slapping each other, snapping Fatma back to reality.
Fatma blows out her candle, and gets back to the birthday party her family wanted.

“The Shocking True Story of a Person Who Doesn’t Know What They Want To Be”
Since all of her friends know what they want to do,
Sandra feels lost, because she doesn’t have a clue.
She likes lotsa stuff, but she can’t call any of it love
So she drifts aimlessly, waiting for a sign from above.
As the years amble by, she knows the crossroads are near
And the thought of choosing ONE thing fills her poor heart with fear.
But it’s time to make a choice, time to put the ol’ indecision on the shelf
Because for some reason you can’t spend your life just being yourself.
One must be defined by their job and career,
Otherwise your identity would be vague and unclear.
Work is what you is, and who you are about
Being just you would fill everyone with doubt.
So, she allows herself to be shackled by the chains of society,
Even though simply being happy is all Sandra wants to be.
