The Daily Doodles |
My name is David Michael Chandler, and everyday I will post a Daily Doodle with a story attached to it. Everything you see here has been written, drawn, and coloured all on my lonesome. I hope you enjoy them, or die trying. Please E-mail anytime at thedailydoodles@gmail.com |
“The Boy Who Died in His Sleep”
Jeremy tries to scream to force himself awake,
He knows that even if this is all a dream, this is not fake
A portal to the Inter-Dimension has opened under his bed
And it’s absorbing him whole, invading the dreams in his head.
The colours swarm all around, filling his entire brain’s sight
Surrounded on all sides, Jeremy tries valiantly to put up a fight
But the Inter-Dimension can’t be fought with a tiny human fist,
Since it fills the gaps between realities, and doesn’t really “exist”.
With each universe ever expanding, the Inter-Dimension has holes
Which it plugs by absorbing children, and stealing their souls
If no sleeping boys died, the universe would cease to be
A child’s death is needed to maintain the Fabric of Reality.
But when the morning comes, his mother will still weep
For this night it was just Jeremy’s turn to die in his sleep.

“The Monsters in the Night”
Everyone in the car is asleep, except for Jane and her drivin’ Pa,
And Jane could hardly believe her eyes when she suddenly saw—
Rising up out of the darkness, towering beasts overtook the night
Blacking out the stars, giving poor Jane an awful fright.
She didn’t know what they were, but she knew this ain’t sumthin’ good
And it’s up to her to warn the WORLD, like any brave kid should.
So she woke up her sleeping family, to warn them monsters are very near
But they did what they always did, and dismissed her with a sneer
“Oh Jane you’re just a girl, you don’t know what you’re talking about”
“You probably just had a dream, and you’re too confused to figure it out”
The family laughed and fell asleep, as her dad continued down the road,
And Jane felt so angry that she thought she would explode (>__<)
They never believe anything she says, and they mock her every thought,
And maybe if they listened, humanity could be saved from the onslaught.
So as the monsters took over the world, and ate her family that very night
Jane didn’t really mind, ‘cuz at least she was proven right.

“The Shadows in the Dark”
As long as Harry can remember, all through his childhood years,
There lived a Shadow in his bedroom, that feasted upon his fears.
Hiding in the darkness, yet darker than the pitch black night
The Shadow was always moving, forever staying just out of sight.
In the corner of his eye, he can see the Shadow creep
It’s prolly because Harry’s been bad, and for his sins he’ll reap.
He can never quite look at it, though he’ll always try,
And he knows that the night he falls asleep, is the night he’ll die.
Savouring in his terror, the Shadow breathes in Harry’s soul
And year after year of staying awake, eventually takes its toll.
Struggling with all his might, Harry finally feels his eyes close,
And the Shadow smothers him from his head down to his toes.
The last thing Harry sees, as his soul is stolen at last
Is the shapeless void of darkness, filled with sins of the past.
And the last thing that he feels, is an endless sense of dread
Echoed by his mother’s screams, as she finds him dead in bed.

“The Boy Who Was Born at Midnight”
Every child born at midnight, can see inter-dimensional creatures
Glowing blobs of paraphysical energy, with no humanlike features.
They live alongside us on Earth, our dimension parallel with theirs’
And they seem less than enthused, at the Boy’s confused stares.
Our simple brains can’t comprehend, their motives or desires.
They enjoy playing with the human race, and watching what transpires.
Existing between time and space, toying with our lives
And they hate being seen, so no child born at midnight survives.
The creatures approach the poor boy’s bed, and start melting his brain
As easy as it is for us to squish a bug, they drive him totally insane.

One of my favourite sites, Stranger Dimensions, did an awesome write up about me and my site!
You can read it here: A SPACE BETWEEN DREAMS AND NIGHTMARES: The Daily Doodles.
It was a very nice surprise, as I actually do read Stranger Dimensions daily when new posts are delivered to my Gmail each night, and about a week ago I was scrolling down the newest email, reading about many of the weird, paranormal, science-y news they report on, when suddenly I saw one of my drawings! :-o I certainly wasn’t expecting it.
If you’re into news about scientific discovery, time travel, ghosts, aliens, the paranormal, and basically everything cool and fun that is known and unknown in the universe, I think you’d love Stranger Dimensions too.
(And also, if you’re like me and you grew up listening to Coast to Coast AM, I KNOW you’d love Stranger Dimensions).
Thank you to Rob Schwarz for the great article!

“Light as a Ghost”
Lil’ Dennis Nowell was afraid of the deep dark at night
The mystery of the blackness always gave him a fright
While he eventually grew out of it, he always remembered the fears
And how those long sleepless nights ruined his childhood years
Soooo, after he became a Big Dennis Nowell, and lived a long life
And died peacefully in his sleep and was buried alongside his wife,
He decided to turn into a ghost, as opposed to heading up to Heaven
So he could travel back in time, to about the age he was seven.
In the afterlife, time is not in a straight line
It happens all at once, knotted up like twine
Dennis carefully worked to unravel time’s thread,
So he could return to the time he was a child scared in bed.
Now he haunts himself every night, casting his ghostly blue glow
His ectoplasmatic shimmer providing a calming light show.
It soothes his child-self, who is no longer afraid of the dark so deep
He can just stare at himself as a ghost, and peacefully drift off to sleep.

“The Boy Who Was Born With Burnt Out Eyes”
The boy who was born with scabby burnt out eyes,
Hears his mom tell him he’s handsome, but it’s nothing but lies.
She shrieked when he was born, and tried to throw him away
But the boy followed her home, and since has been able to stay.
With no limbs and no nose, he often angrily feels shorted
Every Christmas he asks Santa if he can just be aborted.
But each year he wakes up, and wobbles down the stair
And doesn’t unwrap the gift of death, because Santa doesn’t care :’-/
His head is misshapened, with the puckered skin of a fish
Kids throw coins in his mouth, and then make a wish.
To stay cool in the summers, he secretes a radioactive blue ooze
And his existence was slammed by the local news.
No matter how bad it gets, he never stops and asks himself “why?”
And that’s because he’s a sissy, and the idea makes him cry.
The only logical conclusion is that he’s being punished for a past life
Where he cut the heads off of orphans, and punched his common-law wife.
So each night he dreams, as his mom locks him back up in his cage
That some day he can take advantage of all of this pent up rage.
It won’t be with this body, but he’ll make them all come unfurled…
He’ll just have to wait till his next life till he can murder the world.

“The Sea of Dead Children”
Margaret Jane died whilst in a slumber so deep
Tragically murdered in her bed as she was fast asleep
She opens her eyes with a fright, hoping it ‘twas just a dream
But the water fills her lungs, drowning out her blood curdling scream
For if a poor child dies before the age of eleven
They don’t go to Hell, and they don’t go to Heaven
The Sea of Dead Children becomes their new home
Upon the ocean’s floor, their souls eternally roam.
The ghostly hands grip tight, pulling Margaret Jane down
Even though she already died, her soul has to drown.
Dead children are always excited to play with someone new
Since the afterlife can be boring, so it’s something to do. :-)
Deeper and deeper she goes, into the dark depths of the sea
To play with every child who ever died, for the rest of eternity

“The World Under the Bed”
While hiding from terrorists who just killed her parents dead,
Sarah-Louise fell through a portal that opened under her bed.
Down for miles she plummeted, into the Inter-Dimensional Zone
Endless spiraling colours flashed by, and she never felt more alone.
After an hour of falling, she asks herself “Why?”
Why did this have to happen, and why did my parents die?
But she doesn’t get an answer, because that’s not how life works
There isn’t always a reason for why the fates are such jerks.
Once she sees the Inter-Dimensional Beings slowly form and take shape
Sarah hopes that one of these creatures can help her out of this scrape…!
But alas! For if they had lips, the Beings would be licking their chops
As swallowing recently orphaned girls is their favouritest of crops.
They’ll absorb her entirely without giving a second thought,
And any pathetic begging or pleading would all be for naught.
As she nears the end, she thinks of her dead mom and dad
She hopes they’re in heaven, and that they aren’t sad
She thinks when she lands she’ll be with them soon,
The naive thought alone makes her tiny heart swoon.
Sarah is wrong, of course, as the Inter-Dimension will never let her go
And as she hits the bottom, all she can feel is a brightly coloured glow.
And once she’s completely absorbed into the Inter-Dimensional sea,
She knows she’s just cursed to be energy… for the rest of eternity.
(Starring Sarah-Louise Kelly’s from “From DC to ZZ”!)
