As a 10 year old boy, on his first trip to Disneyland, the day couldn’t be going any better for Dusty Martin… he got to ride every ride, meet Mickey and Donald, and now the best fireworks show in the world is starting!
He feels his mom’s hand casually let go of his as the first firework explodes in the night sky, but he didn’t care. LOOK AT THOSE KABOOMS! He cheered and yelped with each blast.
As the finale rains down from above, Dusty decides this is the best day of his life.
He looks up to tell his parents this revelation, but they are nowhere to be found. He searches for them frantically, letting the crowd disperse, but no… he is all alone. He has been stranded.
He wishes he didn’t ask his dad for that churro; it must have been the last straw. They’ve left him for good.
EVERY YEAR SINCE, Dusty goes back to Disneyland and waits in the same spot to watch the fireworks show… hoping his parents have returned for him. He wears the same red hoodie, the same dingy Mickey Ears, and his well-worn and tattered jeans so that if they DO come back they will recognize him.
And if they do come back, he promises he’ll be a good boy. He’s sorry he wasn’t :-(
