Anonymous asked: I've never seen your first post before that explanation. It's really hard to believe that you're even the same person drawing; I do of course. Just wanted to say I really like your work and that skill progression + adding the gif angle to your style it's great.
Thank you! :-)
(This message is in reference to an ‘ask’ I answered the other day about how long I’ve been drawing, and I linked back to my first drawing I posted on this site. IT’S A REALLY BAD DRAWING.)
(Here’s a bonus really awful drawing and story that I once thought was fine to post, starring the same character from my first drawing ever. It’s embarrassing!)
One thing I AM really happy about with my site is how I can see my drawings change and improve steadily over time, so I’m really glad ya noticed it. I think my linework hasn’t gotten much better, but my colouring and standards have.
And my GIFs! I always try to just make whatever drawing and story I feel like doing most, and lately that has meant GIFs— the response has been great from readers and I think they make my work more fun. I really gotta thank my friends who taught me how to make them and helped me put together my first several GIFs— Kyle, Chiara, Fatma, and Samantha; they’re all awesome artists, MUCH better than I am, EXTREMELY talented, and they taught me how to do the GIF thing and put up with me asking them for help all the time!
Now I’m able to make my own GIFs, and since I don’t have to feel guilty for asking for help and taking their time, I can fiddle around with them and make them more complicated and whatnot, which a lot of you have noticed and written in about.
Everything is still 100% hand drawn and hand coloured with mostly Crayola coloured pencils, so the style of my work won’t really change much I don’t think, it’ll just move more.
(Obviously if I make something glow in a GIF, that isn’t “hand coloured”, but you get what I mean)
It always delights me to no end when I see people actually paying attention and NOTICING things like my drawings improving from God-awful to serviceable, or the repeated themes and whatnot… just the idea that people look at them is still a concept that feels weird and is really nice and encouraging. It’s the sort of thing you always hoped for as a creative person…!
Thank you to everyone for all of your continuous and awesome support! If ya ever have any questions, feel free to ask whenever ya like, and if you post your own original work I want to see it.
I’m an Editor here on Tumblr for the #GIF, #Artists on Tumblr, and #Illustration tags, and every single day I try to feature someone who has never been featured before. POINT ME IN YOUR DIRECTION!
Have a great weekend everyone, for by dawn we may be dead!!!! But probably not!
