“Studying the Happy People”
Nicole Ponce often wondered how some people can be happy
Such an odd way to be, since humans are meant to feel crappy.
So she kidnapped these strange folk, took them to her secret lair
The underground laboratory, that she keeps under the stair.
She sticks twelve happy peoples in tanks full of nutrient-enriched goo
(And while it’s a small sample size, it’ll simply have to do)
As they float in the tanks for years, she pokes and she prods
Studying the reactions of these poor happy clods.
While they don’t seem as happy as before, they still seem quite fine
They quickly adjusted to life as test subjects, and hardly cry n’ whine
No matter what Nicole does, the happy dolts stay the same
Just happy to be alive, and they seem to smile without shame.
As the experiment ends, Nicole finds it’s worse than she feared…
All conclusions of her study suggest that happy people are just weird.
Nicole dissolved her test subjects in acid the next day.

“I Am The Only Creature Who Will Ever Love You”
I know sometimes you feel sad, and worry you’ll always be alone
You just want someone to hold you, or to call you on the phone
But if you’re told there’s someone else out there, you gotta know it’s lies
I am the only creature who’ll ever love you, and I hope you realize.
I see you’re about to scoff, and say that what I claim ain’t true
But do you really think you deserve someone GOOD to love you?
I may not actually be a human, but I’m the best you’ll realistically get
And you’re lucky that I would even love you, so you shouldn’t be upset.
While I may not be rich, able to buy you all you want and more,
I make up for it by being stupid, with a personality that’s a bore
And you’d think that something this ugly, would at least be nice
But I’m actually pretty mean, with a demeanor as cold as ice.
Your insecurities will be my puppet strings, upon which I shall yank
You’ll become a shell of your former self, your soul bereft and blank
You’re convinced that you must love me, because why else would you stay?
And you’ll believe no one else would have you, like some sad cliche.
It’s up to you to relinquish, the hopes of having a good relationship,
It’s the only chance I have, for you to fall for my mind game trip.
So, don’t listen to your heart, or that sensible voice in your brain
Just let your low self esteem guide you, even if it feels insane.

“The Girl Who Is Okay”
Angela Camblor gazes out at that evening’s full moon
While city lights are nice, the starlit sky makes her swoon.
She inhales deep the crisp Spring air and feels quite alright,
And reminds herself to be aware that it’s a wonderful night.
There were problems before, and there’ll be problems to come
And what matters to her might not matter to some
But even though she was never one to go whinge and whine,
She knows how rare it is to feel absolutely fine.
So Angela savours the feeling, before it has passed
While the nice evening will end, it won’t be the last.
She’ll wake up in the morning and have another day,
Forever knowing in her bones that she’s perfectly okay.

Dinah used to always worry that she’d end up alone,
Because she struggled to abandon her comfort zone.
Surrounded by books is where she felt right at home,
Many weekend nights spent pouring over a new tome.
And while she has friends, she’s no one’s one and only
Despite no significant other, she never feels lonely.
Dinah felt she must be strange, must be mad as a hatter
But eventually she realized, “what the hell does it matter?”
So she loves books! And how can that be wrong?
Her literary tastes are varied, her comprehension strong.
Humans are well and good, but they will come and go.
A new book, however, is always a loyal n’ loving bedfellow.
Alone but not lonely, as books stay through the ages
If Dinah wants company, she just turns the pages.
