The Daily Doodles |
My name is David Michael Chandler, and everyday I will post a Daily Doodle with a story attached to it. Everything you see here has been written, drawn, and coloured all on my lonesome. I hope you enjoy them, or die trying. Please E-mail anytime at thedailydoodles@gmail.com |
“The Boy Who Died in His Sleep”
Jeremy tries to scream to force himself awake,
He knows that even if this is all a dream, this is not fake
A portal to the Inter-Dimension has opened under his bed
And it’s absorbing him whole, invading the dreams in his head.
The colours swarm all around, filling his entire brain’s sight
Surrounded on all sides, Jeremy tries valiantly to put up a fight
But the Inter-Dimension can’t be fought with a tiny human fist,
Since it fills the gaps between realities, and doesn’t really “exist”.
With each universe ever expanding, the Inter-Dimension has holes
Which it plugs by absorbing children, and stealing their souls
If no sleeping boys died, the universe would cease to be
A child’s death is needed to maintain the Fabric of Reality.
But when the morning comes, his mother will still weep
For this night it was just Jeremy’s turn to die in his sleep.

“Life at Lightspeed”
It’s been almost 5 years since he left, and Josh Miller happily realizes everyone he ever knew is most likely dead… He can finally return home.
Having grown tired of his pathetic friends and family back on Earth, Josh decided to take advantage of the dilation of time created by traveling at (close to) the speed of light, enabling him to easily outlive anyone he had ever met.
For each year he experienced traveling on his ship, 22 years will have occurred for everyone living on Earth, so over a century has now passed for everyone else but him… and he’ll land back on Earth still a young man, unencumbered with any ties to the past, eager to start anew.
Once he gets home he’ll have a quick crash course to get up to speed on what happened in the past century, maybe make a snack, and then get right to work creating a new circle of family and friends that hopefully won’t be as disappointing as the last group he was saddled with.
And if they’re annoying too, it’s not a huge deal… he’ll just blast off for another 5 years and try again.

“Waiting for the Train”
Train after train passes by, each more empty than the last and none going where he needs to go, so Kyle sighs dramatically to see if he can make a loud enough noise to echo in the desolate subway station (he can’t).
He refuses to check his phone to see when his train is even scheduled to arrive, since that would show he cares, and Kyle feels the need to passive-aggressively take a stand to no one in particular to prove how much he simply doesn’t care.
Plus it’s more fun to sigh and moan over the train’s assumed lateness, acting as if it’s a huge annoyance, even though he keeps telling himself he doesn’t even wanna go. Being upset over it at least passes the time while he waits.
Having laid in bed for days, too depressed to move, Kyle somehow dragged himself out of his apartment to go meet up with some of his friends like he had promised over a week ago. He finds it hard to imagine that people do thisevery day, and that they even look forward to hanging out with people… it’s all such a hassle.
It was exhausting to even get this far with it…!
His train finally arrives, but Kyle decides he’ll just text his friends a happy lie so he can go back home and be alone.

IT IS THE AMAZING FATMA’S BIRTHDAY!
Here is a drawing and story I made for Fatma last year. She’s one of my bestest friends and an amazing artist, and if you don’t follow her main site or her BRILLIANT sketchbooking site, you are a FOOL and should be THROWN OFF THE EARTH.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FATMA!
“To Dream to Be Alone”
Fatma leans over her birthday cake (a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, chosen because it is Fatma’s mother’s favourite cake instead of Fatma’s preferred carrot cake), as her 7 siblings impatiently squawk for Fatma to blow out the candles so they can wolf down the dessert.
Her mind wanders as she ponders what to wish for, and the loud bustling of her family slowly fades away as an empty calmness creeps in…
What would it be like to be alone
No one bothering me on the phone
I’d make cheese sammiches 3 times a day
Then sit and eat carrots while I draw away
Finally living life being second to none
I wouldn’t have to care about anyone
No more worries, no more stress
No longer having to clean up another’s mess
I wish I could be, with no friends or family
Just exist by myself as I drink cups of tea…
A loud shriek pierces Fatma’s reverie as her younger brothers start slapping each other, snapping Fatma back to reality.
Fatma blows out her candle, and gets back to the birthday party her family wanted.

“The Monsters in the Night”
Everyone in the car is asleep, except for Jane and her drivin’ Pa,
And Jane could hardly believe her eyes when she suddenly saw—
Rising up out of the darkness, towering beasts overtook the night
Blacking out the stars, giving poor Jane an awful fright.
She didn’t know what they were, but she knew this ain’t sumthin’ good
And it’s up to her to warn the WORLD, like any brave kid should.
So she woke up her sleeping family, to warn them monsters are very near
But they did what they always did, and dismissed her with a sneer
“Oh Jane you’re just a girl, you don’t know what you’re talking about”
“You probably just had a dream, and you’re too confused to figure it out”
The family laughed and fell asleep, as her dad continued down the road,
And Jane felt so angry that she thought she would explode (>__<)
They never believe anything she says, and they mock her every thought,
And maybe if they listened, humanity could be saved from the onslaught.
So as the monsters took over the world, and ate her family that very night
Jane didn’t really mind, ‘cuz at least she was proven right.

“The Shadows in the Dark”
As long as Harry can remember, all through his childhood years,
There lived a Shadow in his bedroom, that feasted upon his fears.
Hiding in the darkness, yet darker than the pitch black night
The Shadow was always moving, forever staying just out of sight.
In the corner of his eye, he can see the Shadow creep
It’s prolly because Harry’s been bad, and for his sins he’ll reap.
He can never quite look at it, though he’ll always try,
And he knows that the night he falls asleep, is the night he’ll die.
Savouring in his terror, the Shadow breathes in Harry’s soul
And year after year of staying awake, eventually takes its toll.
Struggling with all his might, Harry finally feels his eyes close,
And the Shadow smothers him from his head down to his toes.
The last thing Harry sees, as his soul is stolen at last
Is the shapeless void of darkness, filled with sins of the past.
And the last thing that he feels, is an endless sense of dread
Echoed by his mother’s screams, as she finds him dead in bed.

“The Boy Who Was Born at Midnight”
Every child born at midnight, can see inter-dimensional creatures
Glowing blobs of paraphysical energy, with no humanlike features.
They live alongside us on Earth, our dimension parallel with theirs’
And they seem less than enthused, at the Boy’s confused stares.
Our simple brains can’t comprehend, their motives or desires.
They enjoy playing with the human race, and watching what transpires.
Existing between time and space, toying with our lives
And they hate being seen, so no child born at midnight survives.
The creatures approach the poor boy’s bed, and start melting his brain
As easy as it is for us to squish a bug, they drive him totally insane.

The Girl Who Was Scared To Try”
There once was a girl who wanted to do well,
But she was scared of failure, so she’s stuck in a Hell
Of procrastination and excuses, since she’s afraid to commit
And these simple facts are something she’d never admit.
So she dibble dabbles in this and that, but it’s all the same
Never finishing anything she starts, and only she is to blame
Cuz’ to fail at a sincere effort, is her greatest fear
So she hides behind cynicism, year after year…
If she never attempts anything, then she’ll never be judged
Living in her cocoon of passivity, where she’ll never be budged
Hopefully someday she’ll decide to finally TRY,
Because having regrets on your deathbed is no way to die.

The other, looks to the past.
Today, is ignored.

“Life in the Backseat”
Leaning her head against the cool glass of the window, Hannah drifts in and out of a hazy, bored sleep as she sits in the backseat of her parents car, returning home after a long weekend at grandma’s.
Grandma wasn’t the same this time, and after catching the bits and pieces of her parents hushed whispers to each other, Hannah knew they noticed it too.
Staring out at the mountains in the distance, Hannah wonders what it must feel like to have your brain slowly fade away… not being able to remember your family, friends, or even who you are… it could be what Hell feels like.
The mountains she was blankly staring at come into focus, as she realizes that settlers once had to cross those towering peaks on foot… a thought hard to fathom as Hannah and her family speed past these mountains without a second thought from the safety and comfort of a heated car.
She wonders if she would have survived that trip if she was alive back then… maybe she did die in those mountains, in some past life, since she simply wasn’t made for those times.
And maybe she isn’t made for these times, either. Maybe it was some cosmic mistake, being born now… and if the world ends tomorrow, could this be the last life she gets? Does everything start over? Does time stop if there are no humans to notice it?
Ah, but there’s Aliens I guess… they’d prolly notice it. Hmm…
Her grandma’s hugs even seemed different this time… as if it was just a reaction of her grandma’s muscle memory, with no feeling or affection behind it.
Hannah slips into a dream, standing in her grandma’s living room, searching for her toys that are apparently lost… and her grandma is coming down the hall. Slowly.
For whatever reason, Hannah feels like she must escape with her toys before her grandma catches her there. She can’t see her, but Hannah can feel her presence looming, coming ever closer…
It all seems so empty.
Hannah wakes up to her dad’s voice letting her know they’re home so she needs to put her shoes back on, and the thoughts from the drive fade away.
