“The Escape Pod”
It’s a shame it had to be this way.
As Mozzy the Brown Dog and Deuce the Jack Russell watch their master’s ship explode into a thousand pieces from the safety of the escape pod, they wonder to themselves… are we to blame?
Are we bad dogs?
We tried to wake up our master, we yipped and we yapped, and it’s not our fault that they didn’t understand it meant we were warning them about the fuel leak. It was strongly implied.
We really did our part.
To be honest, I mean, Master was a good owner… but maybe if they would have played with us more, perhaps we wouldn’t have been so tempted to chew through the fuel line. This was totally preventable.
Even still… it’s bittersweet to have it end this way. To not have a human to call your own is so excruciatingly embarrassing; it’s no way for a dog to live. But as the explosion of their former home and the tiny bits and pieces of their Master fades away into they darkness of space, they realize… we’re free.
And that’s what Master would have wanted, if they weren’t exploded.
I don’t know… maybe we are bad dogs :-/
Mozzy, ashamed, looks anxiously for a table to hide under as he waits for a scolding that will never come.
And Deuce, for lack of knowing what else to do and feeling equal parts optimism and fear for the future, simply wags his tail.

“Goodnight, Son”
O’ father o’ father, I love my dog so
I’d be ever so sad, if she were to go :’-/
Hush my sweet boy, it pains me to see you cry!
I just want you to know, your dog will certainly die.
But please do not worry! Because there is more
Me and your mother shall die, just as ours did before.
Your sister’s tender hearts will clog up and burst,
(Although, statistically, you’ll likely die first).
Our whole family will be gone, and not remembered at all
And the sun will explode into a gigantic fireball.
As the sun dies, it’ll become a deadly blackhole
Where no light can escape it, and neither can your soul.
The earth will be sucked in, life as we know it will end
It’s the one certainty of existence of which you can depend.
So you have no reason to worry! We’re all born to be dead
Just close those tired eyes, and rest your weary head.
Goodnight, son.

As his Boy pet him goodbye, and left and locked the door,
The Lonely Dog knew it’d never see his Boy forevermore.
This has to be the last time, and now his Boy has left
Leaving a hole in the Dog’s soul and his heart quite bereft.
“Why did the Boy have to go? Couldn’t he bring me along?”
“I could lick his face while driving, and do my barking song.”
“Why, I thought we was a team, friends till the very end!”
“But now I see our love was a lie and it was all pretend” :-/
So The Lonely Dog mopes around, chewing the couch and shoes
Since his Boy was never coming back, what did he have to lose?
“This is possibly the worst thing to happen, in all my doggie days”
“My beloved Boy has left me lonely, so I shall hate him for always”
“But hark! What ‘tis that sound? Is it the jingle jangle of keys?!”
“Could it be my Boy returned, and somehow he heard my pleas?!”
The Boy walks through the door, and the Dog does a fancy dance
So happy to not be lonely anymore, he’ll give his Boy one more chance.
