My name is David Michael Chandler, and everyday I will post a Daily Doodle with a story attached to it. Everything you see here has been written, drawn, and coloured all on my lonesome. I hope you enjoy them, or die trying. Please E-mail anytime at thedailydoodles@gmail.com |
“The Hidden World Within”
Everyone has their own world, existing deep inside
Some try to escape it, and some stay in and hide.
Populated by secrets, lies, and all that you regret
Things you won’t ever tell anyone but can’t ever forget
Towering peaks and deep valleys, growing as each day is new
Continents of memories, everything that makes you, You.
No two worlds are the same, each one is unique.
And no matter how much you share, others only get a peek.

“Floating Upon The Pharma Sea”, a Haiku
On a sea of pills
Flowing through her tangled veins
So she stays afloat.

“The Time is Now” a Haiku
One eye, the future;
The other, looks to the past.
Today, is ignored.

“Just One More Wasted Day”
As nighttime turns to day,
and daytime turns to night
You sit alone in your room,
bathed in your laptop’s light
Thinking back to your youth,
remembering all that you have seen,
Your best times were always spent
Staring at your computer screen.
So while life is passing by,
As you spend it clicking and scrolling away
It must be fine for now,
since it’s just one more wasted day.

“The Nuclear Holocaust of the Mind”
As Nathaniel Kirby drifts off to a quiet, peaceful sleep
A tremor within his brain grumble rumbles somewhere deep
Triggering nuclear memories, hidden within the world of his mind
Setting off a chain reaction, detonating where they were confined.
The mushroom clouds erupt, vaporizing the rest of his thought
The radiation spreads, leaving in its wake atomic rot.
Luckily Nathaniel is sleeping, not aware of his mental holocaust
And when he finally awakens, he won’t even remember the memories lost.
Now his brain can start over, develop all new hopes and fears
But the meltdown has poisoned his mind, for at least several more years.

“The Old Mix Tape”, the Haiku version.
Finding old mix tapes
Makes you nostalgic for how
Lame you used to be.

“The Girl Who Lost Her Colour”
THE GIRL WHO LOST HER COLOUR, has been feeling very glum
It seems like she lost her gusto, or maybe has just grown dumb
She can see the world’s full of colour, but she’s covered in foggy mists
No matter how much she tries to brighten, the greyness still persists.
People keep asking her for ‘reasons’, as if she’s breaking sacred laws.
She just knows it is how she feels, even if there is no discernible cause.
She could see it in the mirror, as her colour slowly faded away
And it steadily got dimmer, until it was eventually gone one day.
She used to hope that her colour, can be coloured in by a handsome boy
But she knows that that is fleeting— she has to be able to colour in her own joy.
She wanders amongst the bright people, each a lovely vivid shade.
They look like the people on TV, all self-confident and self-made
She thinks they can tell she’s different, as she’s blinded by their glare
Always feeling like she doesn’t fit in, that no one could possibly care.
Disappearing into her own darkness, she dreams of being a shiny vivid hue
All she wants is to find her colour, but she just doesn’t know what to do.

“The Door That Won’t Stay Closed”
Young Jake wakes up, as he hears his closet door creek
It’s opened once more, and what’s inside is taking a peek.
He rushes to shut it, but he knows it won’t hold for good,
It will always try to come out, as it has since childhood.
He’s boarded it up tight, but it wiggles a way through
He’s hidden it out of sight, but still eternally it grew.
It won’t starve to death, no matter how much it’s ignored
It patiently sits back, waiting for a chance to be adored.
And when that day comes, it’ll enjoy the long-awaited limelight
Relishing that its existence will make them all sick at its sight.
Everyone who thought that they knew Jake, will realize they don’t.
He’ll hope things will stay the same, but he knows that it won’t.
It will rot slowly in the daylight, ripening as it stews in the open air
Its stench permanently soaked in the nostrils, of anyone who might care.
But for now all he can do, is repeatedly keep the door closed.
Knowing that it’s just a matter of time, till it’s all exposed.
He locks the door again, muffling its cringe inducing sound
And tries not to think of what’ll happen, when it is eventually found.

“Other People’s Lives”
Sarah looks out her window, at the building across the way
She sees people quietly existing, at the end of a long day.
Most of the rooms are dark, or behind their blinds they hide
But some are living wide open, letting Sarah take a peek inside.
She wonders who they are, and what sort of lives they’ve led
As they mill about, she tries to imagine whats in their head.
What are or were their dreams? Are they experiencing a private hell?
That old lady is always alone… at least as far as Sarah can tell.
What was her childhood like? Have they ever been in love…?
She hopes the reality’s better, than anything she can conceive of.
The kitty cat catches her peeping, and peers right into her soul
Then it yawns and stretches languidly, lazily eating from its bowl
She wonders if the man fought in the war, as he seems to be that age
Sarah tries to delve into his memories, while he reads and turns the page.
So many different lives to imagine, and the thought haunts her to the bone
Eventually she stops watching other people, and goes back to living her own.

“A Ghastly Realization”
Wrapped up tight in a warm blankie with the air conditioner on full blast (like she likes to do), Joss bops around online to see what her stupid annoying friends are up to…
“FML”, one stupid friend writes, “my parents didnt leeve enuff money for gas, I gota use mY OWN $$$ WTF”. Joss just sighs and wishes the friend would get t-boned by a drunk driver.
“I dont kno who i can trust, I feel so betrayed. It takes so much for me to open up and you showed me why I dont” says another annoyingly overdramatic friend, and Joss knows it’s just because that friend’s equally annoying boyfriend lied and went to a party, so naturally the friend’s faith in love and honesty shall never recover.
After scrolling past several tired memes, entitled whining, and idiotic opinions, one annoying entry jolts Joss out of her snarky malaise—
At first she mocks it: “that which doesnt kill you only makes you stronger”, said without a trace of irony by a friend who simply procrastinated all semester before finally staying up just one night to finish an essay… come ON, Joss thinks. How trite! How pathetic! That hardly counts as something you survived through—
But then Joss pauses, as she remembers— she also wrote the same cliched phrase 6 short months ago when she got fired from her summer job because she kept oversleeping and her parents grounded her for 2 weeks.
Oh no…
And that is when Joss realizes that she is just as annoying as everyone else.
