My name is David Michael Chandler, and everyday I will post a Daily Doodle with a story attached to it. Everything you see here has been written, drawn, and coloured all on my lonesome. I hope you enjoy them, or die trying. Please E-mail anytime at thedailydoodles@gmail.com |

“Have you seen this man and woman”, asked Aaron Matthews boldly, shoving a Polaroid picture in the face of the Monster who ran the hotel.
The Monster eyes the boy hungrily, but knows he’ll lose his business if he breaks the truce and eats the delicious child. He reluctantly looks at the couple in the picture, and nods.
“Yes me see’ded ‘dem. ‘Dey stay one ni-ni and ‘den zoom gone bye-bye. Why you want know?!”
Aaron pockets the picture and turns away without replying. With how cheap his foster parents were, he knew they’d opt to stay in this dump and take advantage of the Human-money-to-Monster-money exchange rate over driving further to a Human town.
He grimly faces the gathering crowd of Monsters blocking the only way out, and stares at them intensely with his remaining eye.
“The Human authorities know I am here”, Aaron lies. “If you eat me, they’ll level this town”.
The Monsters look back and forth at each other, their thick brains processing what he said slowly. They seem to believe him.
“Whoever tells me which way my evil foster parents went”, Aaron says, “Gets this.”
He reaches into his pocket and pulls out his eyeball, the bloody optic cord still dripping juice. Aaron knows from firsthand experience that monsters love to eat children’s eyes the most, sucking out the tears before popping it like a grape between their fangs.
The pack of drooling Monsters look at each other in amazement, never expecting such a treat. One by one they slowly process what is being asked of them and yell— “North! North! ‘Dey went North!”
“North… dammit”, Aaron thinks to himself.
He chucks the dead eyeball behind him and the Monsters all chase it at once, unblocking the exit. Aaron calmly walks out into the town.
While he had learned last night that he’s not the first child his foster parents have abandoned to die in Monster territory to collect on the child’s life insurance policy, he was certainly determined to be the last.
With the sun setting, he knew he had to find cover for now… but the only way out was to go North— deeper into Monster territory. There, he will track his scheming foster parents, have his revenge, and claim what is rightfully his.
