The Daily Doodles |
My name is David Michael Chandler, and everyday I will post a Daily Doodle with a story attached to it. Everything you see here has been written, drawn, and coloured all on my lonesome. I hope you enjoy them, or die trying. Please E-mail anytime at thedailydoodles@gmail.com |
assorted-goodness asked: Hey! I've always wondered, on average, how far ahead of time do you do your drawings before posting them?
Hey there! :-)
It really depends… I’d say 99% of the time, I post them immediately after they are finished. Like, literally, immediately after they’re done. I don’t like sitting on one, I wanna post them right away and see if people like it.
This has meant I often post at relatively dumb times, however, and I can’t really make a bunch all in one go and then have a set time that I post them. HOWEVER, I always tend to regret it when I post a drawing and story I like at 5am, since not as many people are online and then my post may not do as well.
I know I am not meant to care about things like notes and reblogs, but of course I do. I make stuff in the hopes that people like them. I’m not gonna pander for notes or do something I don’t genuinely like, but naturally I want everything I make to do well.
THEREFORE, lately, I’ve been writing and drawing and colouring my pieces at my normal time (in the middle of the night, like around 4am), but instead of posting them immediately, I’ve been waiting till “prime time”, which I consider to be 7pm to midnight, Los Angeles time.
I almost never have a stockpile of drawings to post, so historically I post them fresh, before I know how much I hate it.
We’ll see if I stick with “not posting immediately after it’s done so that I don’t have the excuse of posting at 5am to explain why my illustration didn’t do well”, since it doesn’t always REALLY matter, and if they were a good enough piece then it won’t matter when ya post it, right? Maybe!
It helps that my process is perhaps simpler than other artists… I do everything by hand and don’t use the computer for anything but rounding the corners and getting it online, so I have a quick process for getting it from the page to my site.
This is possibly more info than you need, but I try to be thorough :-)
Thank you for the question, and feel free to ask anything anytime!
Love,
David Michael Chandler
